What are layers in digital art?
Today's Art Q and A
Q - What are layers in digital art?
A - Layers in digital art are added pallets or layers added to an existing layer which allows for artwork to be added without having to modify the original layer. Layering give the artist more flexibility in added art without risking errors in the original or basic layer. Layering can also be used to add effects such as faded images or highlights or shadows and gives the artist more control over values that would be difficult to change otherwise. Layering also can create different versions of the original artwork if desired..

A - The best method is to simply use water and no other additives or soaps to clean your brushes. If needed let the brush soak a short time for hard to remove stains. Also, it's a good idea to avoid using watercolor brushes for any other type of paint. Oil paints will ruin your brushes for watercolor and it is better not to use them for acrylics also.

How do you create black in watercolor?
Today's Art Q and A
Q - How do you create black in watercolor?
A - While black is available in watercolor tubes or pan paints usually it is often rather flat in tone and it is preferred to mix your own black. A simple method is to use two parts ultramarine blue with one part red and one part yellow. The method can vary according to the brand and type of paint you are using. Most of what I have seen on the internet recommends equal parts of these primary colors but it usually ends up giving you a more dark brown shade than a good solid black. Mixing in extra blue usually will provide much better results. When bleeding out this mix with water the result will provide a much more satisfying tone as well.
