What is pointillism?
Today's Q and A
Q - What is pointillism?
A - A technique realized by French post impressionist artist Georges Pierre Seurat where small dots of color are painted to create an image. The technique, however tedious in execution does establish unique textures on the canvas allowing the eye to blend color relative to the distance the artwork is viewed.

What is the best method for applying masking fluid without ruining my brushes?
Today's Q and A
Q - What is the best method for applying masking fluid without ruining my brushes?
A - The best method is not to use your regular art brushes to apply masking fluid. Most masking fluid will dry fairly quickly leaving a rubber residue on your brushes making them unusable. Brush cleaning solutions can be used but often it can be too late before the brushes are damaged. An excellent alternative is to use cheap kids brushes, usually thin pencil like brushes with short nylon tips are the way to go. They are easy to find and are inexpensive enough to be thrown away after a few uses.

"Scifi Across the Galaxy" Poster
by MOVEIT5150
This science fiction poster is a collage of sorts of four digital artworks that were done over the year of 2017. Each of these art images took about 14 hours or so to complete. The spaceships were all done separately. Initially, the ships were drawn as a pencil sketch (see example images below), on paper then transferred to digital for enhancing on an iPad. The background art was added later to complete the artwork.

What is the best method for stretching watercolor paper?
Today's Q and A
Q - What is the best method for stretching watercolor paper?
A - An easy method for stretching watercolor paper is to simply tape down your paper with painters tape, apply water with a mop brush to the surface and allow to dry. Wetting both sides in my experience seems to soften the texture of the paper too much even after long dry times. Stretching the paper can be avoided altogether by using 300 lb watercolor paper.

Q - What are the most widely used art brushes?
A - The most popular brushes used by artists are round brushes and flat brushes. A lot of artists do seem to have a preference. Flat brushes tend to be used more for angled shapes such as in landscapes or cityscapes.
