A - An art happening refers to a type of performance or occurrence related to a form of artistic expression. Also referred to as performance art. Art happenings can have improvisation aspects and may involve audience participation. The term "happening" was first used by artist Allan Karpov in the late 1950's who was an early contributor to the development of performance art.
