Is it okay to use #2HB school pencils for art sketching?
Today's Art Q and A
Q - Is it okay to use #2HB school pencils for art sketching?
A - For everyday sketching practice I rely a lot on the common #2 HB pencil. A fairly wide degree of value in terms of light to dark tones can be exercised from this common pencil type and it's probably my most used pencil for sketching. Some artists prefer a harder graphite core pencil to allow them to build up tones but I have found the convenience and low cost factors are more important to me . One note to consider all #2 pencils are not alike so be sure to experiment with different brands to find a pencil that works well for you.
