A - A style of painting that focused on bold colors, a painterly quality and strong, textural brush strokes. The movement developed in Paris, France around 1905.  Henri Matisse was considered the leader in the fauvist movement.  Fauvism was a departure from earlier impressionism with less empasis on realism and inspired the German expressionist movement.
