Q - What is a primer coat in art?
A - A primer coat in art is usually a coat of white gesso that is applied to the canvas and allowed to dry before painting. Most canvases are now prepared this way by companies that sell art canvas. Most artists prefer gessoed canvas as it make it easier to apply paint over he canvas surface and adds texture as well.
