Can an eraser be used for drawing?

Today's Art Q and A

Q - Can an eraser be used for drawing?

A - Erasers can be used for negative drawing in graphite. Erasers are very effective in emphasizing the light source in a pencil drawing. Using an eraser to highlight reflections or areas on the outside of a figure is very effective. Negative drawing on lettering also works very well and can be more pleasing to the eye than a positive rendering of letters. Erasers can be used for blending out or creating a gradient effect in a drawing. Another use for drawing with an eraser is in creating texture by using short or even long negative strokes in a graphite drawing.
