Today's Art Q and A
Q - What are some techniques for creating texture in water-based paints?
A - Ther are a number of techniques to create texture in acrylic or watercolors. Layering is one of the most common techniques, simply add additional layers of paint either by glazing or increasing the pigment strength. Dry brushing is similar to layering and works well for adding texture and can be used with brushes, and sponges. Lifting out wet paint or scratching out paint can add texture. Splattering with a brush or toothbrush will work too. Many techniques can be combined to create a myriad of possibilities for adding texture to an artwork.
