What are paper cut outs in art?

Today's Art Q and A

Q - What are paper cut-outs in art?

A - Paper cut-outs are a form of art popularized by artist Henri Matisse in the 1940s using cut-outs due to health issues. Paper cut-outs are created simply by cutting out colored paper or paper that has been painted on and cut out with scissors to create shapes, figures, still life or whatever the artist's desires to do.  For Matisse, the art form became a very important part of his body of work.
