Q - What is an artist's mannequin?
A - An artist's mannequin is a small wooden figure used to help an artist with figure drawing. Most mannequins are rather generic looking but can help with getting proportions of the figure correct. Mannequins can be a supplement when an actual model is unavailable. When drawing the figure a common technique is to use the figure's head as a spacial reference for drawing the rest of the body.
